Project Scope
The work on this project included the installation of an entire plumbing and mechanical system for the facility. This facility is used to conduct a national research program on Atlantic salmon and requires suitable environments for the fish at the different stages of development. Because of this the project required complex plumbing to over 200 culture tanks. On the mechanical side of things, a gas fired make up air unit was installed to provide heat and ventilation to the hatchery area. This unit was connected to the exhaust fans in order to maintain building pressure and to meet the air change requirements. In the office area split system units were installed to provide both heating and cooling.

Special Project Considerations
This project was originally put out to bid after being designed and specified by an engineering firm. When the estimates for construction came in it was apparent that the project was going to be far over budget with this original design. Because of this the owner decided to work with the general contractor, ABM Mechanical, and an aquaculture expert to totally redesign the plumbing and mechanical systems for the entire facility. By doing this, these systems were able to be better sized to suit the building requirements and the total cost of construction was able to be brought within the budget.

Project Scope
This project consists of a new 50,000 square-foot addition to the existing factory. ABM is responsible for the domestic water, sanitary sewer, storm drain, chlorinated water, indirect waste, microwave, hot water, chilled water and glycol piping and HVAC Systems. The HVAC Systems consists of a Trane Chiller, Renewaire Energy Recovery Unit, two Trane Fan Coiled Units, two Evapco Cooling Towers, three Sondex Heat Exchangers, Johnson Air Rotation Unit, Airius and Greenheck Fans, two Ever Clean Air Handling Units, Pneumafil Air Handling Unit, Trane Unit Heaters, pumps, controls, duct work and associated piping systems.
